As I am sitting at my desk, cooled by the brisk air conditioning amongst the sweltering summer heat, I find my heart leaping for joy as it anticipates the extension of our Stag family to the incoming class of 2025, as well as to others. Pondering over my own transition to campus as a first-year, which took place during the cusp of a global pandemic, it is beyond any doubt that all new incoming students are sure to feel welcomed.

Contemplating carefully over what I wanted to write for my contrib

Cultural Appropriation - Danger of Distortion

Cultural appropriation surrounds us each day, distorting our perceptions of marginalized cultures. Read how this impacts the girls represented by Malala Fund.

Cultural appropriation surrounds world media today, negatively impacting the lives of already marginalized individuals. White culture, specifically, serves as the dominating culture that distorts colonized cultures of less power and wrongfully exploits them, often as a means of entertainment and fashion.

As a Fairfield University student, one often neglects to see the amount of place privilege we fall victim to each day. It is vital to combat this potentially harmful aspect of ourselves and face it head on.

Setting the Scene

If I held the capability, as an author and creator, to constrain my reader in any which direction throughout the entirety of my website rather than steer, this piece would serve as the starting point.

I will be taking you through the fundamentals of my research and unveiling to you the most important increments of knowledge pertaining to the social injustice focused upon. In a sense, this blog sets the scene for which all other aspects of my work build off of.

So let’s begin with just that! Wh

Its Time for Fairfield Students, Faculty, and Staff to Ignite Their Inner Activist

What is an activist? To my understanding, an activist is any individual entity who earnestly acts towards a cause, in the hopes of yielding a certain result against an injustice, whether collectively with a larger group or singularly. I use the word “acts” in the definition because, although it may be repetitive to the word being defined, its generality is essential. In other words, it is the only term broad enough to encompass all that is needed to make an activist.

An act can be as simple as

A Journey Through Journaling

Sitting cozy in the beautiful DiMenna-Nyselius Library on this lovely morning, gazing at the softly falling snowflakes, I am excited to share with all of you my version of a guide to journaling! Journaling is one of my favorite hobbies, and I am a complete advocate for the notion that every human being, especially today’s youth, should keep and maintain a daily journal.

There are an infinite amount of benefits that come from journaling, and boundless directions one can take within the recreatio

Fairfield Says Farewell to Mr. Fitz

James D. Fitzpatrick, better known to many as “Mr. Fitz,” is one of Fairfield’s most beloved staff members, and he is retiring after 51 years of service. His impeccable story is heartwarming to all who hear, and his dedication to Fairfield University supersedes the imaginable.

Arriving at Fairfield University for the first time in 1966, Mr. Fitz entered the campus gates as an eager student, unaware of how long his journey at Fairfield would truly last. After graduating from the University four

Black History Month: Some Stories Worth Retelling

This year has certainly been one of change and adjustment for many of us. The new semester has begun, and with it comes new classes and the turning of a new page. While in this new chapter of our lives, it is important and necessary to reflect on not only the changes and obstacles we have overcome individually, but also those faced by the heroic individuals who came before us and helped to shape the world we live in today. Black History Month, beginning on Feb. 1, serves as an amazing reminder a

About Me

My name is Peyton Perry and I am a sophomore student at Fairfield University. I'm the Opinion section editor for The Mirror on campus and a dedicated and passionate individual towards my community. My writing transcends across varying platforms, from volunteer and education work to editing and publication for The Mirror. Thus far, I have contributed to the Opinion, News, and Vine sections of The Mirror. I have also engaged in work towards the #MeToo Movement and Malala Fund.

I hope to utilize my love for writing in a way that will inspire the younger generations to engage in their community and create true change. I have so far targeted the Fairfield University community, educating my peers on the fight towards girls' education and new ways of advocating and supporting organizations like Malala Fund. One can find specific ways of how to create positive change on campus, as well as ways off campus on their own, through my work.

I have further gained a new love for design, as seen in my work above. Throughout the singular year I've been working for The Mirror on campus, I have learned how to utilize various platforms, such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Spark, Visme, Canva, Piktochart, and Wix. I am a quick and highly determined learner; I can assure my design skills will only grow from here as I continue to push myself on these platforms and beyond.
